La Grange de la Pépinière

Le Vivier is at the centre of the Mont St-Michel bay. The tidal rise -that is the difference between high and low tide- can reach up to 50 feet. At low tide you will be able to go for long walks into the ocean and see the mussels on their typical stakes (Le Vivier is the mussel-breeding center of France - more than 10,000 tons per year); or you can visit the sandcastles of the sandworms (Unesco world heritage site) or you can just walk along the 14th century dyke which was built by the request of Anne Duchess of Brittany. Ten miles to the east you will get to Mont St-Michel. To the west you will get to Cancale and furtehr on to St-Malo (13 miles).

How to get there:

By car: Take the highway from Rouen - Caen - Avranches up to exit Dol-de-Bretagne/Le Vivier-sur-Mer.... or from Paris - Le Mans up to exit Laval/Fougères and then national road to Fougères, Dol-de-Bretagne, Le Vivier.

By train: TGV from Paris to Dol-de-Bretagne or Saint Malo (we pick you up).

By ship: Ferries from England and the Channel Islands.

By plane: Air France to Rennes (50 miles to Le Vivier) or Ryan Air to Dinard/St Malo (15 miles).

The House: An old farmhouse built in the 18th century, completely renovated in 2004. We used organic materials, protecting the original granite and adobe walls with lime plaster and hemp insulation. Using oiled hardwoods for the staircase and internal doors. The house has central heating using a heat pump.

Non Smoking house!

The rooms:  There were three guestrooms with queen-size beds, each with their individual full bathrooms and closets. Two guestrooms were on the right side of the spli-level house (see picture). The third guestroom was on the garden side and there was an additional room for children in the attic. The children had to use the bathroom with their parents.

Breakfast was served in the living/dining room. Additionally each room had its own coffeemaker.

2019 price per room, including breakfast was:

Couple Euro 45,00

Single guest € 41,00

Extra charge of € 8,00 per child.
